The three Imams (Malek, Al-Shafa’i, Ahmed) are of the view that Zakat Al-Fitr should be given in the form of food, not cash, not in the form of any other alternative to cash. This is the view of the majority of Islamic scholars; the evidences for this view are more sound.
Zakat Al-Fitr is one Saa’ of any kind of staple food, which is four complete scoops as scooped up with two hands. In modern weights this is equivalent to approximately three kilograms.
Fukuoka Masjid habitually sends Zakat Al-Fitr outside Japan, since no enough information about needy Muslims inside japan. The value of Zakat Al-Fitr depends entirely on the price of the staple food in the country that we will send zakat to it.
Similarly, sacrificial animal in Eid Al-Adha; most Muslims “in Japan” appoint someone to slaughter the sacrifice on their behalf in their home countries regardless the difference in animal prices between Japan and others.
Indeed, misunderstanding arises when we consider Zakat Al-Fitr as money while it is not.
Noteworthy giving Zakat-Al Fitr in form of food, in conformity with the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions, does not prevent you from giving Sadaqah (charity) without any specific amount, ratio, time or place.
We ask Allah to help us and all the Muslims to understand His religion and adhere steadfastly to it. May Allah bless our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
Imam Of Fukuoka Alnour Mosque
Dear Imam Mohsen,
as Salam alaykom,
There will be an eclipse of the moon tomorrow in shaa Allah. Is there a Duaa to be said if we see it? I heard there is a special prayer. Is that right?
Should we also perform the prayer / duaa even if it is cloudy and we don’t see the eclipse ourselves. In other words, should be still pray based on calculations that say when the Eclipse will occur?
Jazakom Allah khairan
Dear Imam Mohsen,
We pray in one mosque, but the qiblah is about 14 degrees off from the correct qiblah, we discovered it later few years after establishing the mosque, so, my question is: What we have to do is this situation?
Dear brothers and sisters,
Praise be to Allah.
Zakat has been enjoined by Allah in order to purify wealth, make it grow and bring blessing, and to help the poor and needy.
It is a great obligation and it is not permissible for a Muslim to neglect it or careless about the matter of zakat, or to be lazy about giving it to those who are entitled to it, because of the stern warning concerning that which is mentioned in the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Praise be to Allah, prayer and peace be upon the Master of Messengers, our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), his family and companions. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has favored some days and months for fasting over others, such as the month of Sha’ban, which is a great act of worship. There are many hadeeth which confirm this act of the Messenger in the month of Sha’ban :
